College Career

Ellen was a tall player, but she was also efficient. She set records in the Southwest Conference and for UT for the most blocked shots in a game (12) vs. Texas Tech in 1990, as well as the record for most blocked shots in a season (66!)

Those who will remember watching her play will remember her rim dominance and her 55.7% career field goal percentage.

Ellen Bayer is one of the tallest female basketball players of all time, but it’s her work after her sporting career that really made her stand out in the tall community.

Ambassador for the Tall Community

Ellen is deeply ingrained in “Tall Community International.” The group meets annually, with their most recent gathering being in Michigan.

Ellen proudly served as Miss Tall International 1993, taking the crown as “the” global tall woman icon.

Unlike typical pageants, this title focused on poise, public speaking, and the ability to advocate for “tall awareness.” Ellen used her platform to bring a level of athletic prestige to the organization.

Through TCI, Ellen is involved in discussions regarding “the ergonomics of height.” This includes advocating for more inclusive standards in:

• Transportation: Pushing for better legroom in the airline industry.
• Public Spaces: Addressing the height of theater seats, doorways, and counters.
• The “Tall Scholarship” Program: She has remained a visible supporter of the TCI Foundation, which provides academic scholarships to tall youth (women 5’10″+ and men 6’2″+) to help them embrace their stature early in life.

Using Her Position to Change the Tall Narrative

Having transitioned from a high profile NCAA athlete to the professional world, Ellen often uses TCI conventions to mentor younger tall women. Through her work, she’s been able to shift the conversation around extreme height from “awkwardness” to “advantage,” showing young women that their super tall  frame is a source of power, not something to be hidden.

It’s amazing to think how early Ellen was doing this (from 1993 onwards.) Tall Ekaterina Lisina and Natalia Vieru, also basketball players turned tall advocates, are famous for exploring the power of their height via social media these days, but it wasn’t a thing at all when Ellen first set out.

During TCI conventions (including recent ones in 2025), Ellen often speaks about the “unburdening” of her posture. In the outside world, she is always “The Tallest,” but at a TCI event, she is simply “one of the girls.”

TCI has clearly given her the space to just be a person, and emphasizes that for her, being 6’8″ is a social connector rather than a barrier.

Brief Amazonian Internet Fame

Ellen founded her website, tallelle.com, around 2007. Her content focused on her doing comparisons with regular-sized people.

Much like Tall Kat, who often featured in Ellen’s clips, her content lacked the true “Amazonian” feel that women like the giant Tall Blythe and the brutal Bunny Glamazon were able to provide in the early days of internet Amazon modeling.

Ellen’s site went down around 2009, and marked the end of a brief period of internet content for her.
